CEDARE Launches Artichoke Farmer Field School in Trougy under Al-Murunah Project

by CEDARE Team

The Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) launched the Artichoke Farmer Field School in Trougy Village, Abu Al-Matamir District, Beheira Governorate, as part of Al-Murunah Project, in collaboration with the Agricultural Administration and Agricultural Extension Services.

The school will target 20 farmers through 10 practical sessions, held every two weeks over five months, and cover essential topics including irrigation management, fertilization, weed and pest control, prevention of fungal diseases, and harvesting practices that preserve export quality and reduce crop losses. The training will also cover artichoke crop nutrition and marketing practices, helping farmers improve crop quality and productivity.

Through practical, field-based learning, Al-Murunah Project supports farmers in adopting more sustainable agricultural practices and strengthening climate resilience through improved water management and the promotion of resilient nature-based water solutions.

Together, the Potato Farmer Field School in Al-Halawga and the Artichoke Farmer Field School in Trougy will target 40 farmers across the project’s two pilot locations, promoting improved agricultural practices and more climate-resilient farming systems.

The project is implemented by the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) in partnership with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), with support from the UK Government, and in collaboration with several national agencies and local partners, including the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.
