CEDARE Launches Potato Farmer Field School under Al-Murunah Project

by CEDARE Team

The Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) held the first session of the Potato Farmer Field School in Al-Halawga Village, Abu Al-Matamir, Beheira Governorate, under Al-Murunah Project, in collaboration with the Agricultural Administration and Agricultural Extension Services.

Targeting 20 farmers through 10 practical sessions, the school covers key topics including land preparation, seed selection, irrigation and fertilization management, pest and disease control, and techniques to improve crop quality and reduce losses. The sessions will be held every two weeks over five months, allowing farmers to apply the recommended practices throughout the different growth stages of the potato crop and strengthen their capacity to adopt more efficient and climate-resilient agricultural practices.

Through this training, Al-Murunah supports its objective of building climate resilience through enhanced water management, while promoting resilient nature-based water solutions and more sustainable agricultural practices.

The project is implemented by the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) in partnership with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), with support from the UK Government, and in collaboration with several national agencies and local partners, including the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.
