CEDARE Completes the Second Phase of EA$E under the Al-Murunah+ Project

by CEDARE Team

The Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) has completed the second phase of the Economic and Social Empowerment (EA$E) training, reaching 100 households in Trougy and Al-Halawga villages, Beheira Governorate, under AL-MURUNAH+: Advancing Positive Gender Norms for Resilient Families and Communities.

During this phase, 64 sessions were delivered, covering family communication, joint decision-making, constructive conflict management, and shared household responsibilities. With the completion of Phase II, a total of 250 households have participated in EA$E sessions across the two phases, strengthening their understanding of gender-equitable family relationships and practices that contribute to household resilience. The training achieved an average attendance rate of 99.4%, reflecting strong participant engagement.

The programme is now paving the way for the next stage, which includes business skills training and economic interventions. By combining positive changes within the household with opportunities to strengthen livelihoods, Al-Murunah+ aims to support more resilient families, greater participation of women in household economic decisions, and more sustainable livelihood opportunities.

The project is implemented by the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) in partnership with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), with support from the UK Government, and in collaboration with several national agencies and local partners, including the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.
