At the kind invitation of the Environment Affairs Department of the League of Arab States, the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) participated in the 37th Session of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment, held at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo.
The session brought together Arab environment ministers, heads of delegations, representatives of the League of Arab States, and regional and international organizations to address key environmental and sustainable development issues and strengthen joint Arab environmental action.
The opening session featured addresses by representatives of participating countries, institutions, and organizations, including CEDARE, as well as regional and international bodies concerned with environmental and development issues.
H.E. Dr. Khaled Fahmy, Executive Director of CEDARE and former Minister of Environment of Egypt, delivered CEDARE’s address, expressing his appreciation to the League of Arab States and the Council’s Technical Secretariat. He emphasized the importance of continued cooperation and coordination within the framework of joint Arab environmental action.
Dr. Fahmy highlighted CEDARE’s commitment to placing its expertise and technical capabilities at the service of Arab countries and their national institutions through technical cooperation, the preparation of studies, capacity building, and support for the planning and implementation of environmental programs in alignment with national priorities. He also underscored the importance of complementary roles among institutions and organizations operating in the region and the exchange of knowledge and expertise to address shared environmental and development challenges.
Dr. Fahmy also expressed CEDARE’s sincere appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab Republic of Egypt for their continued support and cooperation with the Center. He reaffirmed CEDARE’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation with Arab countries and expanding joint efforts to advance the region’s environmental and development priorities.
He further highlighted the importance of securing the necessary resources to implement agreed-upon programs and activities, thereby ensuring the continuity of cooperation and enhancing the impact of projects and programs implemented by CEDARE in partnership with countries and institutions across the region.
CEDARE’s participation in the session reflects the Center’s commitment to contributing to the framework of joint Arab environmental action and strengthening cooperation and coordination with the League of Arab States, its member states, and partner institutions and organizations in support of environmental and development priorities across the Arab region.
Dr. Fahmy concluded his remarks by reaffirming CEDARE’s commitment to continued collaboration with Arab countries and partners to advance shared environmental priorities, wishing the session every success in supporting Arab countries’ efforts to protect their natural resources and achieve sustainable development.
