The Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE), represented by a delegation headed by H.E. Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Aty, Senior Advisor for Water Resources Management at CEDARE and Former Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Egypt, participated in the high-level session entitled “Science-Based Cooperation for Shared Waters,” held as part of Cairo Water Week 2026.

CEDARE’s participation came at the invitation of the UNESCO Chair on Transboundary Water Management and Governance at the National Water Research Center (NWRC), in collaboration with the UNESCO Cairo Office. The session highlighted the importance of integrating hydrological science and digital modelling with effective water governance and water diplomacy to strengthen cooperation among countries sharing transboundary water resources.

CEDARE’s active participation reflects its continued commitment to promoting regional and international cooperation, particularly across the Arab region and Africa, while advancing innovative, science-based solutions to address water scarcity and climate change challenges. These efforts also support improved water policies, institutional capacity development, and regional water security.

The session also marked the launch of the international webinar series “Water Diplomacy 2.0,” aimed at integrating hydrological science, capacity building, and digital modelling to strengthen transboundary water management across Africa.

CEDARE’s participation further underscores its role in fostering scientific and institutional partnerships, promoting sustainable management of shared water resources, and translating scientific knowledge into practical solutions that contribute to water security and sustainable development.
