The Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) participated in the meetings of the 17th Session of the Arab Ministerial Water Council, held in Cairo, as part of ongoing Arab efforts to strengthen water security and promote the sustainable management of water resources.

The meetings addressed key strategic and technical issues, including the implementation of the Arab Water Security Strategy 2030, cooperation on shared water resources, the application of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in water resources management, and the development of partnerships and mobilization of financing for water-related projects.

CEDARE’s participation underscores the importance of regional cooperation, knowledge exchange, and sustainable solutions to address water challenges across the Arab region.

The meetings were chaired by Dr. Aref Gharib, Head of the Nile Water Affairs Sector at Egypt’s Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, with the participation of Dr. Mahmoud Fathallah, Director of the Housing, Water Resources and Disaster Risk Reduction Department at the League of Arab States, who also oversees water-related portfolios within the Council’s technical secretariat.
