The Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) is participating in the 28th meeting of the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) Advisory Board, taking place from 18–23 September 2026 in Bonn, Germany. The meeting is held in conjunction with the 33rd meeting of the Technology Executive Committee (TEC) and the TEC–CTCN Joint Session.
On Friday, 18 September, the first day featured the TEC–CTCN Joint Session, focusing on key priorities under the UNFCCC Technology Mechanism, including Artificial Intelligence for Climate Action, the Belém Technology Implementation Programme (BTIP), engagement with National Designated Entities (NDEs), the next Joint Work Programme, and resource mobilization and partnerships.
A key focus of the session was the Technology Mechanism Initiative on Artificial Intelligence for Climate Action, including the AI for Climate Action Award 2026 and the upcoming COP31 Masterclass on AI for Water–Energy–Food Systems. During the discussion, the role and importance of Artificial Intelligence in addressing climate change were raised, including how emerging digital technologies can be effectively applied to support climate action.
During the session, H.E. Dr. Khaled Fahmy, Executive Director of CEDARE, highlighted the potential role of CEDARE as a regional implementation partner capable of connecting national priorities with technical knowledge, institutional capacity, data, partnerships and project pipelines to help translate climate technology needs into practical action across the Arab region.
Dr. Fahmy emphasized that regional institutions can play an important role in bridging country-level needs with technical expertise and implementation capacities, supporting the development of regional and multi-country initiatives, and facilitating the transition from identified technology needs to projects, technical assistance and scalable solutions.
This positioning reflects CEDARE’s practical experience in project implementation, technical assistance, capacity building, knowledge management and regional cooperation, including work across water security, climate resilience, digital solutions, sustainable agriculture, circular economy and environmental technologies. CEDARE’s portfolio includes initiatives such as Al-Murunah, Smart Villages, HowMuchSun, Sustainable Recycling Industries (E-Waste), ReWater MENA and climate-smart agri-food value chains, demonstrating experience in connecting technical solutions with institutional and field-level implementation.
CEDARE’s participation in the meeting provides an opportunity to exchange with international and regional stakeholders, follow emerging developments in climate technology and explore practical pathways for regional technical cooperation, partnerships and implementation.
CEDARE will continue its participation throughout the meeting, engaging with stakeholders and exploring opportunities to support the translation of climate technology priorities into practical and scalable solutions across the Arab region.
