CEDARE Delivers Business Skills Training for 100 Households under Al-Murunah+ Project

by CEDARE Team

The Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) is delivering business skills training to 100 couples across Trougy and Al-Halawga villages in Beheira Governorate, as part of AL-MURUNAH+: Advancing Positive Gender Norms for Resilient Families and Communities. Taking place from 10 to 15 October 2026, the training builds on the Economic and Social Empowerment (EA$E) sessions, extending the project’s support from strengthening household relationships and joint decision-making to developing practical skills for sustainable livelihoods.

The adapted curriculum helps couples approach sheep rearing and fattening as a potential income-generating business. Through practical exercises and participatory activities, participants explore household resource assessment, market opportunities, pricing and sales, production costs, profitability, financial planning, and risk management. The training also introduces opportunities to add value across the sheep value chain and diversify household income through complementary activities such as poultry and rabbit rearing and composting.

By strengthening couples’ business planning and financial decision-making skills, the training prepares participating households for the economic interventions that will follow, helping them make informed investment decisions, manage resources effectively, and develop more resilient livelihood opportunities.

The project is implemented by the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) in partnership with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), with support from the UK Government, and in collaboration with several national agencies and local partners, including the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.
